4 Easy Steps to Master Your Productivity

Getting the job done requires a consistently high level of performance, especially during tax season when it doesn’t leave a moment to spare. While it may be tempting to just get the job done, it cannot come at the expense of accuracy. Both productivity and accuracy are musts in the world of accounting and tax.

After many years working in a public accounting firm and operating one myself, I have found some tips and tricks that help improve my productivity and profitability:

Take care of the biggest tasks when you’re most alert

Observe when you most enjoy doing certain duties during the workday and design your schedule accordingly. When you label yourself as a morning or night person, you can match rigorous, important assignments with peak periods of time when you have the most energy.

Prioritize your most important tasks first

Take 10 minutes at the beginning of your day to identify what you need to get done. If you can, order these items in terms of importance and estimate how long each will take. Block time on your calendar.

List your “crucial results” for the day

Pick one to three tasks you want to complete that day. Checking them off gives a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.

Take regular breaks

A refreshing activity allows you to help concentration and boost your mood. Incorporate 5-15 minute breaks into your day to reset and refresh between tasks. These breaks in your work cycle are a great chance for a snack, drink of water or relaxation.
